Monkeys in the fridge!

A rondawel at Kruger

Recently, I stayed at an establishment which had accommodation in lovely round bungalows (rondawels) with thatched roofs. Each had a verandah facing across a fabulous view of the surrounding landscape. Each veranda had a table and chairs and a fridge. Not much unusual about that perhaps?

The unusual thing was that the fridges were either partially locked or physically turned to face the wall. The reason was evident each night and morning when we were visited by small grey Vervet monkeys!

These very cute and highly entertaining creatures were very adept at opening fridges and feasting on the contents! This is why all the fridges are secured!
