Seeing a lion or a lioness in the wild in Africa is a special thing.
When you come across a whole pride lying about in the sun, lazily yawing as they roll over, you know that you have won the jackpot. Such beautiful animals, in their own space and time, living life to the full.
This photo only captured about half the pride, sprawled along a river bank, about 100 metres from where I was watching.
How lucky was I?
Kruger National Park in South Africa is one of my most favourite places in the world. I could spend many months each year, soaking up the specialness of the flora and fauna and being treated to watching nature at its best.
With such great cameras, it is now possible to capture lovely closeup images without disturbing the animals and to watch each drama as it unfolds.
